Personal packing list suggestions

Plan for a week long trip: Monday-Sunday

Clothes... some with good sun coverage. Long pants/jeans advisable
A brimmed hat
Good sturdy boots/shoes (no open toed)
Good flashlight or headlamp with plenty of battery
Bathing suit (if desired)
Toiletries
Medications

Bug repellent
Sun screen (Ask Sam!)

Journal
Misc. reading material
Personal snacks, etc.
Phone chargers
Your own camera/film camera for shooting... we may have landscape opportunities @ Possum Bend
Yoga mat or similar for lounging around
Water bottle(s)
Sun glasses

Towels and washcloths provided

Try to keep to around one duffel bag or so..

1.Chose one artist from the list

2.Research everything you can find out about that artist.

3.Based on this research, formulate three interview questions designed to prompt the artist to talk more about that particular topic.

4.Use the guidelines for creating good interview questions. (UA Box)

Background Context and Research

I.Before doing any research, answer the following:

What are three quick assumptions do you have about the black belt region and its artists?

Answer quickly and write the answers down.

II.Read the Black Belt History text and visit black belt treasures website.

•Based on these resources (and others), challenge your assumptions. Look for any exceptions to your three assumptions that can you find that might challenge or problematize your initial assumptions.

•Restate the three topics you originally made assumptions about, in a more balanced way, providing specifics, as required.

4.Respond to the following:

•Based on these resources provided (or others), compare and contrast the approaches of Steve McCurry with photographers like Mary EllenMark or Raghubir Singh.

•What are some key lessons and takeaways with respect to navigating culturally sensitive subject matter ?

•How do these photographers differ with respect to supporting the agency of their photographic subjects?
